Creating Peace of Mind: The Safe2Attend Certification Standard

We understand how important it is that businesses in the events industry can work safely and support their employees’ and the delegates’ health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Being a driver of growth across different industries for decades, independent certification can be a powerful tool to bring back confidence to the business world.

Safe2Attend™ Certification is a series of evidence-based assessments that help mitigate health and hygiene concerns of event organisers, sponsors and delegates by evidencing compliance of their venues, services and processes with risk-based hygiene control best practices.

Safe2Attend™ Certification is based on the Safe2Attend™ Standard which provides a framework for the event industry to operate whilst effectively managing hygiene and virus control.

The Standard has been developed based on advice and best practices as defined by the events industry, by local, regional and national governments and by national and international organisations such as Public Health England, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDPC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The Standard has two key aspects:

  1. Principles – elements with which all Certified parties must comply
  2. Requirements – elements that apply to certain businesses, operations or situations.

The Principles reflect a company’s strategic approach to hygiene and virus control, they include:

  • Policy statements
  • Commitment from leadership / management
  • Assessment and audit processes
  • Documentation management and use of the Certification

The Requirements describe what is implemented at an operational level to ensure hygiene and virus control, they include measure to manage:

  • Personal Safety
  • Social Distancing
  • People Management
  • Other Identified Risks

Each business applying for Certification chooses which Requirements apply to its operation depending on the nature of their business, including the size and type of business, how it is organised, operated, managed and regulated. They will also need to monitor these measures to make sure they continue to protect their variety of stakeholders.

Once completed, the documented policies and processes are verified by a Safe2Attend Risk Assessor. Upon approval, these provide an effective framework for businesses to operate while keeping the health and well-being of staff, of attendees and of others in the events industry very much in focus.

We believe that the Safe2Attend™ Certification Standard will give you freedom within a practical framework to achieve what you need to deliver  continuing, or restarting operations during or after the COVID-19 pandemic.

We expect that the Standard will be updated periodically, to ensure ongoing relevance. The current version, which is the Second Issue, was released as of 19 October 2020.
